I think you're seeing a shift, albeit slowly. I live in a small rural Indiana town, and we have many mom's staying home raising the kids and homeschooling. My wife does the same and while it is not the easiest from a financial standpoint, it is well worth it.
May take a few decades to get back completely but I do think more and more are choosing that as the way forward.
Rural Michigan, 5-10+ acre mini homesteads. We are seeing more young families moving here, home schoolers with kids with visions of veggie gardens and livestock. Also, many "kids", with their kids, returning to their parent's homes. IMHO it will only take one nuke, earthquake or other major world event ... less than a decade.
I hope so. I'd like to see it become more about family and less about work (outside the home). Michigan needs a new governor. That woman is batshit crazy.
