I know for a fact that putting incorrect info on a patients medical record is a federal felony.
For example, nobody ever asked me but they put on my chart even mundane info like 1-never married, 2- 20/20 eyesight, 3-DNR, 4-no living will, etc. When confronting staff re errors and reminding them it is a federal felony and writing down the name of the nurse who prepared that form, they took a shit fit and the entire unit ran around like chicks without heads to correct the report.
Yes they can be sued and they think 'hospital policy' covers them when in fact that policy jeopardizes the whole hospital including themselves.
