so they want to kill jobs paying 50k to 100k and leave those people to take jobs for 25k, essentially putting career employees nearly into poverty

The skilled trades in Alberta are 150k to well over 200k. Some oil companies will give you 50k for a home when you sign on. Your pension will allow you to retire at 55 with the same income as when you were working. This is the real reason these jobs are targeted.
