My wife thinks I’m crazy when I bring this up, there are at least four celebrities I distinctly remember passing away in the last ten years that I disturbingly find out they are still alive. Many of these celebrities I remember had a couple of days of discussion on the news and social media. These celebrities for me include Ed Harris, Neil Diamond, David Byrne “lead singer of talking Heads” and Mel Brooks. I remember I was in Cleveland Ohio about five years ago when the Mel Brooks announcement was made, the next day his daughter read a beautiful letter she wrote to her father.
Ed Harris was about three years ago, he died of cancer. I remember because he is such a great supporting actor and one of my favorites. David Byrne was about five years ago, I really can’t remember the specifics of the illness that took him down, then I see him on some horrid Dolly Parton New Years Eve special my wife was streaming. Neil Diamond was about eight years ago I guess, I believe he died of some cancer, again I see he’s alive and kicking. Am I nuts? Suffering dementia? Has anyone here have similar memories?
I don't remember Mel dying and I would have noticed. I am a huge Mel Brooks fan. But I'm with you on Ed Harris.
That’s the point, some people remember Mandela dying in prison, and others like me remember him being released and becoming president until his death, then his wife serving.
Funny, me too, that is the one I remember most clearly, mostly because his daughter’s letter was so heart warming. I love the TV version of Blazing Saddles, twenty minutes long after they cut the hell out of it and lots and lots of commercials.
A few years ago, they re-released Blazing Saddles in theaters and I dragged my Mom, my husband, and my woke former best friend. I laughed my ass off. I was too young to see it at the theater as a kid, so I was so tickled to get to see it on the big screen. I definitely enjoyed it more than the people i dragged with me, but they were laughing too between occasional gasps at things that were hilariously "politically incorrect." "Politically incorrect" = the truth that people are afraid to say out loud. Nobody can accuse Mel Brooks of being afraid to point his cameras at the truth, God bless him. :)
I guess I’m wondering, “What in the Wide, World of sport’s is going on here?”.
