I am drawing down my savings account. I will have my mortgage paid off sometime this year instead of just leaving funds in an account that makes next to nothing in interest.
When my mortgage is paid off I will be debt free. Who the heck knows what these clowns are going to do with our funds in the banks. If they think they are losing the war will they care if they screw everybody on the way out the door?
When you are debt free it is actually easier to save money because your stress level is lower. With a lower stress level you do not feel the need to go out and buy something to make yourself free better.
This includes military pensions. But even if they send you a cheque, where will you deposit if if you don't have a bank account. For now, cheque cashing places will take them for a fee (but it will cost you extra money) but how much time before they close that loop-hole.
