IMO, Trump wanted/needed McCarthy to be Speaker bc by proxy, Trump becomes Speaker. I have no doubt that Trump has dirt on him and he used it to his advantage. I also think he encouraged, behind the scenes, for the hold outs to do just that until McCarthy made certain agreements.
