Looks like this man who was beat to death by police at a traffic stop is going to be a big deal. I haven’t actually heard about this one. I’ve been watching the one about the guy who was shot walking out of his camper/trailer. That was pretty wack. I hope we’re close to step 4 but I doubt it. There’s some serious issues with the policing in America right now and it’s getting old.

I have an acquantence that does the hiring for a mid-size city. He told me years ago they were having to lower their standards because they couldn't recruit enough police. It wasn't just the current atmosphere. Cops have always gotten shitty pay compared to other professions.
Last I looked, and this may have been 5-10 years ago, Oakland California is offering $80k to start. High school graduates. That’s not shitty pay compared to other professions.
In my little town most police make 100K plus.
When I left the military my home city tried to recruit me. I wouldn't take the job. Not enough money. My best friend from high school was on the force at the time. He saw what I was making and realized he'd never made shit so he quit. Some of the big cities might be paying more now, but the smaller hole in the roads are still poor pay.
I don’t think anyone getting pulled over fo traffic violation should end up dead. A couple exceptions of course.
I wonder if the cities, especially the worst cities, are having such a hard time hiring police officers, they have lowered the standards and now we have bigger problems. The “hate police” movement caused less people to want to be cops, which cause lower standards for hiring, which results in bad cops, which feeds the hate cops narrative, and around we go.
I feel as though I’m good with people, I enjoy people, even the mean ones. I could be a great police officer but I KNOW that I’ll stumble across shit that’s not cool and I won’t be silent and I’d get thrown down a mine shaft, that’s why I won’t become an officer. Because they themselves won’t allow transparency.
You’re absolutely right. They ruined the system themselves and now it’s harder and harder to fix it.
Getting closer to Obama's goal of a national police force.
