Development of a sapient AI will either be a Fantastic development. Or a disaster of unparalleled proportions.

Concerns about it aren’t without merit. Realistically though. There’s no reasonable way to prevent attempts to develop one. You outlaw it. Your only going to drive attempts to develop one underground. Not even factoring in the attempts likely already functioning in an underground fashion.

Something no shortage of companies, governments, and criminal organizations would jump on funding such projects under the table. First one to develop a General AI has an immediate advantage over all their competitors and enemies. One which would only skyrocket.

Focus should be better spent on placing safeguards and laws in place to Govern such research.

Honestly Mike dooms too hard for me even though I like some of his stuff.

AI is nowhere near sentient (at least no AI that we know of publicly)... I think we are a solid 20+ years away from anything close to what he says. Look how long people have been talking about flying cars... because of laws and other things it takes a long time for most technology to mature
