While living in Louisiana, I learned a bit about how racist some blacks are against other blacks. Many of the lighter skinned are very much against those of a darker complexion, hence the term "brown paper bag", as in you cannot marry someone darker than the "brown paper bag."

In Africa the many of the different tribes don't even see each other as the same race, the "black race" being a unified thing is a western myth.
