There's a limit to claim ownership of property if held by certain parties. If its beyond a certain time, it is presumed to be unclaimed property.
I'd imagine estates, money, etc are all different, but physical property like a laptop I would assume would be no different than pawned property where the loan has gone unpaid, or an abandoned vehicle at a tow yard that has gone unpaid for storage fees or claiming of.
