As one of my Greek acquaintances said to a black woman 10-20 years ago who was bemoaning black slavery and black people's plight, "(That's kinda too bad but) the Turks enslaved the Greeks for a couple/few hundred years but WE GOT OVER IT."
Which is EXACTLY what the Irish did -- (not to minimize their plight one bit, but) they GOT OVER IT, assimilated into society and became productive, respected members of society rather than playing the victim and blaming any and all of their mistakes and failures on past occurances.
Those who do what the Iriish did seem to be far better off - in every way - than those who don't.

Yep, given a long enough time horizon all of us have been slaves, and slave owners.
