Mary is an idol to Catholics. Portraying Jesus as a baby in many of their images is to push Jesus reliance on Mary. Catholics pray to Mary as an intermediary to God. Similarly they will pray to angels and saints as an intermediary. The problem is that the only time the bible talks about praying / speaking to saints and the like is in a negative context, those people are called mediums, talking to the dead. They usually ask saints, angels, mary or whoever to pray for them because they supposedly have more direct access to God since theyre perfected in love. But the truth is anyone who believes in jesus true gospel and has been sealed with the holy spirit has "direct access" to God as much as mary, saints, or angels.
So which is it? Do we pray to them or do we ask them to help us? You seemed to have mentioned both and don't really know where your going with this.
"And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." Revelation 5:8
This verse is mainly why we ask for intercession. You don't have to believe us, but you also don't have to act like an idiot when it comes to trying to explain us.
