You can see where James Doohan's missing finger should be.

He did his best to hide it on the show, but it was most obvious in this shot.

Doohan was a war hero before getting into acting--he lost a finger in battle.

EDIT: Holy shit, it wasn't just in battle, it was the fucking D-Day invasion!
