A global bird flu that has wiped out about 100 million poultry and high production costs pushed the price of a carton of 12 eggs to a record $4.82 in January.

My thoughts are - - how can a dozen eggs cost significantly more than a gallon of gasoline? Exponentially more processing and labor goes into that than chickens popping out some eggs...
