East Palestine 'ineligible' for FEMA help two weeks into train crisis

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Twitter on Thursday that he'd asked for help, but was told by FEMA that 'Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time.'

According to a statement made by Dan Tierney, spokesperson for Ohio Governor DeWine, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has informed the state government that they are not eligible for disaster assistance in the aftermath of the toxic spill.

This decision was based on FEMA's belief that the incident did not meet the criteria of a typical disaster, such as a hurricane or tornado, which are typically the types of disasters they provide assistance for.
