When using a suppressor, subsonic (slow) bullets can eliminate the crack by not breaking the sound barrier. Not hard to find slow 45s but you need to be particular in faster rounds like 22 or 9 etc.
You didn't mention a suppressor. Yes obviously that would help but a suppressor is not practical for this application (defensive, presumably concealed, carry).
Well, while I can see that, most people I know that carry just carry 1 gun that they take with them from the car, not leave one IN the car (which sounds like a bad idea to me in terms of chance of theft, you coming back to find it pointed at you, etc).
