I recently purchased two dozen fertilized eggs, and put them in an incubator. 4 of the eggs were not viable. The rest hatched. There were about the same number of hens to roosters. At 6 months of age, the roosters became roasters. The hens started laying and kept on laying at the rate of about 20 eggs per hen per month.
I sold them all when we moved. I’m about to start up again. I have purchased chicks from Tractor Supply with no issues. If the chick(s) look sick go to another facility.
Look on social media sites and purchase some pullets, that way you will get eggs sooner than if you purchased chicks.
