Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers sports ball team, is a nice guy. The former quarterback has never had a loosing season...
The point isnt "you cant hire a black coach". It's "you should hire the best applicant".
If you always hire the best applicant, you may find certain demographics lag behind in certain fields. The "diversity push" in the US means hiring applicants who are NOT the best candidate to hit an arbitrary representation number. That is what OP is talking about.
The head coach masters his team and gets the best out of them. Tomlin fails at this. He wasn't hired to do that. I have no problems at all with skin color. He wasn't a better D-coordinator than LeBou who the Steelers already had... before waking up i was a fan... Tomlin got hired because that team was hot and [they] wanted to push the image to get Obama. That's why Tomlin has a Superowl ring...
"Diversity" isn't bad, rejection of meritocracy in favor of "equity" is. Intentionally choosing less qualified candidates is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
He's a coach because he's eminently qualified and good at it, he's not a diversity hire.
I like the man. He's proven to fail consistently at preforming up to the skills of his human resources. We disagree. He got the job because he could possibly have done the job and his skin color. The owners of that organization chose to go with promoting the first black president through the hire of a public figure. Diversity is why he's there. He seems like a nice guy regardless though.
