If the point was to poison the ground to punish right-wing areas and starve us, why target Ohio instead of, say, cornfields in Kansas, potato fields in Idaho or cattle farms in Texas ? Any points where I can start digging ?

The East Palestine derailment had/has minimal impact on the state of Ohio as a whole. Look at W/SW (downwind) Pennsylvania. While the "narrative" is on the water and East Palestine itself, which of course should be a concern, there is no mention of anything about Pennsylvania, which is rich in coal, petroleum, natural gas, and iron ore aside from the rich farmland (according to my 1941 atlas and gazetteer).
