This is why the Germans used greenbacks after WWI. The economy was a mess during the Weimar Republic and had crazy hyperinflation. Thus following the election one of the first things thru dealt with was money.

In order to unchain themselves from the international banks, they created a currency backed by the labor of the German people. The money was exchangeable for labor and services and couldn’t be controlled by outsiders.

This caused an economic miracle in Germany and the saved the people from their future of destitution under inflation.
