$99 isn't that much for a coffee table book full of images. I just paid $200 for a 5-volume set of paperback, text only, genealogy books. Limited editions sell for even more. I bought a hardback set of 6 music reference books for over $500 more than 20 years ago.

So yes, people pay that much for books all the time.
