Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. — Psalm 23:4
On many occasions in my life, I have had the need to go somewhere. I remember before I was married when I would get in these situations, I often would ask a friend to go with me. It was not uncommon for me to call a friend or two and ask what they were doing and if they would go with me.
That did not stop after I got married. Many times my wife or I will look at the other and say, “I need to go to …, do you want to go with me?” When it was my friends or now my wife, I always loved hearing the words, “I’ll go with you.” It means that no matter where I am going or what I am doing, someone will be there.
Throughout our life, we will face situations and circumstances that can be difficult. Maybe it’s the loss of a job, family member, sickness, or another tragic event. When we face these times, it is not uncommon to look around for someone who is willing to go through these events with us.
David talked about a dark time in his life in this verse. He was in a valley, and the shadow of death was around, but David found out he was not alone. He found comfort because God, the Shepherd, was with him. He was comforted by God’s presence.
Have you ever faced circumstances where you felt alone? Maybe you are facing a situation in life now where you feel like no one is with you. When you look around for someone to go with you, God is there and saying, “I’ll go with you.” He will not only go with you, He will go all the way with you. Don’t feel like you are alone in whatever life brings. God, our Shepherd, is with you.
