I’m nowhere remotely near a liberal and im sure I’ll take heat for this, but as a gun owning, CPL carrying Floridian who has to live with this, I honestly have a hard time accepting it as a win. Why? My state has ridiculously high amount of absolute degenerate fucking morons. Our court system will do anything g to settle cases quickly including pleading down felonies to misdemeanors by the dozen. We are the mainland capital for out of staters coming to either party their brains out or run away from some aspect of life at home. While I recognize laws don’t stop crime, they do to some degree deter it. Threat of punishment is a natural human thought in the back of anyone’s mind. I’ll withhold final judgement for now, but my hopes aren’t high that this reduces crime. Florida has a tendency to take anything balls to the wall.
Thank you for your input and perspectives. I think some people underestimate the number of liberals and rabid leftists that live in Florida. For decades it's been a haven for leftist retirees from NYC. They tend to willingly allow the destruction of law and order wherever they migrate. They've historically tended to gravitate towards certain areas (Miami, St Pete, etc), but (anecdotally) have been spreading like a cancer all across the state. As far as crime there are also loads of illegals from south of the border (many hardworking and peaceful, many violent criminals) and lots of drugs.
Questions - are you saying that the judicial system - including conservative judges - is lax with sentencing? That would be disappointing. Also, since the passing of your state's Castle Law, are you aware of any decrease in (occupied) home invasions? (Primarily when the resident is at home). I think that might be a decent harbinger of how effective this carry law may prove to be.
I can't imagine the decreased restrictions on concealed carry being a bad thing, don't know that armed decent citizens will have that big of an impact on drug and murder-related systemic issues. Much of that crime remains within the confines, if you will, of that culture (drug dealers shooting each other, etc). What it will do is allow decent people to more safely travel and be out in public. If good people can better protect themselves and their families while out and about in an increasingly dangerous world, I'm all for it.
The justice system here is a joke. It’s basically nothing more than a revolving door. I believe it’s largely due to the transient nature of the population and a system that hasn’t grown fast enough to keep pace with population growth, but regardless it sucks. I’ll give you a perfect example. Had a 8x felon try to break into my house by kicking in the front door a few years back (I wasn’t home). Cops were there in 10 seconds bc they had already received prior calls. The guy was booked and released on personal reconnaissance bond. When it went to trial the judge let him plead it down to disorderly conduct and gave him a fine. I was disgusted. My wife and kids were in the house alone at that time, god knows it could have ended differently.
That's scary. And it's no wonder why the criminals are so brazen. I'm wondering if your judge was a liberal, if he/she was Soros-funded. This kind of "justice" is exactly what the marxists want - increasingly violent criminals terrorizing decent citizens. The marxists are deliberately allowing thugs back on the streets with only a slap on the wrist, as in your case. Kicking someone's door in is not "disorderly conduct" and I bet if something similar had happened to the judge, he/she would have called in the swat team and locked the felon up for awhile. I'm sorry you and your family had to go through that.
Are the prisons full? Or broke? No room for felons below a certain level of violence? I really hope that the WHs get this country back under control, but even so it's going to take years for us all to clean out the rot/corruption from our 'justice' system, 'education' system, government, etc. Years if not decades. I'd like very much for your kids to have a safe, fair and promising world in which to live in and raise families of their own in. So we pray 🙏 to the Lord that He delivers us all from this evil. I imagine it's just as bad all across the country.
