Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in 1953. In 1690 Massachusetts, you could basically accuse anyone of being a witch. They would stand trial, and most likely be killed just for the accusation. This is a play about what happens when hysteria takes over a society, and evil people gain access to all tiers of power; something which happens all too frequently. There is a reason why DJT has used the word (witch-hunt) multiple times. These days, people of power can accuse you of something, and the MSM will burn you at the stake without proof.

He wrote the Crucible not about the history of accusing witches and having them put to death by the testimony of hysterical girls, but precisely as a warning of the danger you are describing. Like 1984. Irrational hysteria putting people into jail and wishing them dead.
