Back during the new-atheism battles, this was always a great go to:
"What year is it?" "What happened at year 0, why did we start counting from year 0?" "If you're using BCE/CE instead of BC/AD, what was the event that caused us to start numbering years from 0 again?"

Back when I was in college they were starting this and also using "Before Present" so I went full obtuse. They were trying to talk about the Egyptian Empire 1500 years Before Present, and I'm like "Oh, you mean the Byzantine Empire?"
I didn't even believe in God or Christ at the time, just fuck you for fucking with words. You change the definition of shit and it doesn't make sense. IDGAF if you don't believe in Christ, I didn't, but the start of the major religion that all the main countries that use the same calendar system, have the same majority religion, and mostly use the same language in scientific discourse might as well use the same yard stick they always have to measure from.
Otherwise what's the point.
woah i haven't heard of 'before present' before. That sounds like a completely loony take. Glad that one didn't survive. Could you imagine books?
eg:
2022 edition: 9/11 happened 21 years before present
2023 edition 9/11 happened 22 years before present
