Q • What were you doing in the CIA?
A • I was an operations officer in the Counterterrorism Center, so I chased bad guys, predominantly al-Qaida. I started in the U.S., then went to North Africa. I did a little bit of stuff in Syria and Pakistan. I was in Iraq from ‘05 to ‘06, and after that I was heading to Yemen, but then, on a whim, I put in an application to business school and got in, so I went to business school.
I had the option to go back, but business was actually kind of interesting, and I’d given eight years at that point in time, so I made the decision to prioritize the personal side of life. It’s a tough lifestyle doing those things in those places. Now I’m married and I have two kids. That would have been impossible in that lifestyle.
