I read someplace a while back that Egyptian hierarchy and aristocracy had left Egypt and settled in Italy. Maybe because of Roman conquest? (Can’t recall) would not have been unusual—conquerors would strip a country of its wealth and the ruling class would be exiled back to the homeland.
