Judging by his work habbits, I don't think Elon Musk had any time available to invest in political research prior to 2020. Like most people he only seemed to have taken notice when it impacted him directly. The deep state became more overt in 2020 onwards.
The other explanation is that he is/was a deep state puppet that was caught and flipped by white hats.
