"Cross dressing Galileans who terrorized the people of Jerusalem"
I remember reading that and thinking what the hell!
Off point but also what stuck out was Joesephus describing that he was of the priest's house of Judah and a General in Galilee, that he was tasked with preparing for fortifying the cities for invasions by the Romans, He basically complains and states he couldn't get the populace to get it done. first war AD 67
Josephus prophesies that Vesapean will become Cesear.
Then during the revolt of AD 70 Cesar at the time passed and General Vesapean had to return to Rome, a battle in Rome over who will become Caeser, eventually Vesapean becomes Caeser and his son Titus takes over preparing to stop the uprising.
Josephs becomes Vesapeans official Historian.
At the same time AD 70 three warring factions who had been buying and selling the temple priesthood for obvious reasons, they had turned it into a money making venture...
Herod wanted to put a statute of Cesare at the temple. the excuse for temple and state uprising.
Any way Josephs describes the three warring factions fighting over the temple mount and priesthood attempting to purchase the priesthood from Herod at the highest bidder and who end up taking over the temple turning it into fortress, ultimately fighting amongst themselves for the priesthood, temple riches, end up stripping, destroying and ultimately burning the temple! History kind of eludes that roman solders did it but that's not what Josephus states, he also go's on to describe how Titus was adamant that the temple not be harmed looted or destroyed. However as Joesephus describes they watch it go down in flames.
This is the actual second temple because remember Herod who was Hasmonaean by birth wanted to build a new temple but the people of the time didn't believe he would follow through, so they eventually agreed to a complete build of the new temple before tearing down the old one... so is there two different temple mounts? because there were definitely two different temples.
