I'm sure there is a proto-Tom Wolfe out there writing the history of how the SA forums invented, distorted and perverted much of what we'd now call Internet culture, but for a while the inner circle there were regarded as the modern day equivalent of the Algonquin Round Table; the reality, of course, was both much more mundane and much more sinister than that.
