I live around literal swamps in deep south Louisiana and grew up hunting with my dad in the woods and marsh...definitely a new thing to swell up like this.

That is very strange then. Are you sure it was a mosquito and not some other flying critter?

definitely. I felt the bite, and did the usual hit to kill and fling to the ground...noticed he was green and not the usual mosquito we see around here...disappointed that I couldn't find it to inspect it better.
