I took a fall on Friday morning after losing my balance when my whole leg was asleep. I managed to give myself a compression fracture on my L4 vertebrae. Not fun.
I am in a lot of pain in spite of the medicine given me. I was told healing would take up to six weeks or longer. And I need to see a neurosurgeon in 6 weeks to assess my healing.
I am typically a very active 70 year old who exercises frequently, clean my own home, mow my lawn, prune bushes and weed gardens. I have never been an invalid. So this is very frustrating for me.
I was told I cannot bend, lift, or twist for at least 6 weeks. I couldn’t anyway bc of the pain.
I am asking for prayers for complete healing as I don’t want to have to go through any surgery in the future for this. Also need prayers for pain.
Thanks in advance to all you prayer frog warriors out there.
My prayers are with you. Anyone here snickering at this has never had their entire leg fall asleep. I had it happen years ago in high school. That second step fells like you don't have that leg and you go down HARD. I thank God you were not alone(I hope) and you didn't crack your skull. I pray for a quick recovery. If I had to sit still for 6 weeks I would need our prayers too. I don't sit still very well and it sounds like you don't either. If I was your neighbor, I would definitely be helping with your chores.
Thanks for that. I do have neighbors who have offered but I am not ready to accept any help yet. Yes, When I was younger I used to stand up on a sleepy leg or foot. But my circulation was so much better then now that my foot woke up fast.
It’s a horrible feeling when you can’t feel your foot to maintain balance. And often people badly twist an ankle even young people trying to feel where that foot is in space. Or they take a fall from lack of balance.
I was lucky I didn’t hit my head on the way down. And my husband was here at the time. I had to crawl across the floor until I could stand up with his help bc I fractured that vertebrae right away.
He’s complaining already that I’m out of commission. He’s never had to wait on me before. Plus he’s older and has had more health issues. Already doesn’t bend much himself. He’s never done laundry or cleaned or made a bed. I had to “help” today with laundry and telling him how to make the bed.
I usually do all home repairs too since he’s not very competent in that area. I am pretty OCD about my home. So I will have to abide with a not so clean home. We’ve already hired a landscaper to mow the lawn and do the yard work. It should help my husband somewhat and I told him I would pay for it out of my savings
At least he can cook and finds that enjoyable to do. So he makes all our regular meals and I do special days and holidays.
Do not feel like you can not accept help. I know you are a strong woman, but even the strongest of us need a hand from time to time. This is your time. God bless
I do have friends and a great church group of women to help if needed. I will ask when I find my husband can’t do it all.
