The National Enquirer was instrumental in reporting the Gary Hart scandal:
" In 2014, the National Enquirer published a famous cover photo of Hart wearing a "Monkey Business" yacht tee, showing the leggy brunette perched on him wearing a "Monkey Business" yacht tee. The New York Times reported that clothing designer Dana Weemus was taking credit for leaking info to the Miami Herald that Hart was having an extramarital affair with leggy sexpot Donna Rice. After the first story appeared in the Herald with all the solemnity of the Woodward-Bernstein Watergate expose, the disgraced Hart dropped out of the race. The Enquirer promptly published the now famous cover photo and burned the image into the national consciousness as a cultural landmark."
