Doney Park in Flagstaff, 6800 ft elevation, has had tornadoes. And now I am at 44700 and we have had them within 5 miles of us. Winds and temps are the actual issue I believe. We have killer microburst downdrafts in the mountains too; like the strength that makes planes crash. Closest thing to tornadoes there is. One of them sailed a torn off monster tree branch horizontally past my head just a few feet from me and rolled my parked truck back several feet. I think the pictured funnel moved along and up the backside of this range from the flatland behind it, where it was generated.
