It's ammonia nitrate that is used to make fertilizer.... if it leaked out the bottom, like they suspect, all along the route it it's not dangerous.... this looks like fear porn to me.
It's dangerous when it's mixed with other things that make it explosive.
The usual ANFO formulation contains about 94% by weight ammonium nitrate (AN) and 6% diesel fuel oil (FO).
I believe you would need a blasting cap as well. This can be made with TATP or Triacetone Triperoxide (a simple to make rapid explosive made using H2O2/acetone/HCl in 1:1:0.25 that can ignite on contact with pressure or fire. You would have to carefully place the TATP into about a 2” piece of 1/4 copper pipe pinched off at the ends with maybe a rocket motet igniter stuck into the top end.
The thing with ANFO is it requires a shockwave to cause it to explode which is why the blasting cap must be used instead of just a fuse.
I am not putting ideas in peoples head. I just want people to know all the reason that just fertilize on the tracks is not an issue.
