Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
How many have taveled the USA by vehicle? East coast to West cost. Up North to Down South, thru the busiest towns in between?
Ports, to border crossings? To know where the heaviest flow of traffic is? How wide open and free riding it is out west after a certain point? In a vehicle you've personally driven on your own? Not just stat you looked up?
I have driven from Los Angeles to San Fran, through Yosemite and Redwoods, through the smaller highway (I think 101?). I have also driven from Maine to Virginia and multiple times in between.
There is no better place for driving lovers than the USA. My dream is to one day go around all the continental states in a RV or something after retirement.
Oh on the redwood. My son's dad had a cabin in seqoiua national forest. We went on out honeymoon! Tooooooo die for! I was 18. We climbed on a rock and I could see Mt. Whitney without binoculars! Gorgeous up there.
That would be cool. I would love to do that also. Stop at every little town fair, or gathering. See why they celebrate and learn the history. Where I'm from in Illinois we have burgoo.... its in Sept. It's a soup of sorts. Lol. Everything but the kitchen sink. But all the elders get together a week ,I think, before the festival and start peeling potatoes and corn and what not. It's a German thing. Then they have a little carnival come in for the kids. And when I was little, they used to do square dancing! Oh how we loved it. I haven't been in years.
Aww. Awesome fren! VA the state for lovers! I lived there for several years. Been all over! I've driven cross country twice. East to west coast and back. Then as a pilot car driver all and in between! What wonderful and humbling adventures. Ports, and borders. Traffic jams and wide open beautiful spaces. For sure. Top to bottom of the map. 8 trips to Canada, without a passport I may add in 2018! Border crossings were Michigan and New York. I love to travel. God truly answered that prayer.
Good on you! Coast to coast was something I always wanted to do, but didn't get a chance before I left. America is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places and has some of the most wonderful people (you just have to get far away from the big cities lol). I personally loved the national parks, even though now I realise the dark side to that as well.
I got very fortunate in the job I had, being a pilot car driver. Honestly Virginia and West Virginia are 2 of my most beloved places after Colorado and Wyoming!
I was about to say, I thought you lived in Australia!? Lol. I've lived in Illinois, SC, VA, CA and now GA lol. I'm a mover lol. What do you mean dark side?
The only way I got in and out of the Country God rest My Dad's soul! Was him being USMC!
