I’m 56. I’ve endured many conversations about the millennial new name for “Karen’s” which is supposed to represent my age group or younger generation who ‘behave,’ like a “Karen!”
The fundamental change, I see in the workplace, which no one seems to be talking about is mental illnesses !
I can see entitlement, it flows from my generation to millennials. I see it with elderly and anyone who has a moment of entitlement.
However, what I am seeing that seems to be more characteristic of their generation is mental illness. Autism, high functioning, autism, mental illness, low IQ sensitivity to emotion. It all seems to be characteristic of this generation.
Communication is not there strong point! Anyone else dealing with this in a daily basis?
I am seeing it in my workplace, I’m seeing it at restaurants with staff, at any type of service industry, it seems to be quite prevalent!
Last summer, my kitchen was staffed by these kids. Constant complaining, walkouts because they actually had to work, sitting on their asses when things needed to be done, coming to work high, "I don't feel good" (read: I'm high and have a bad buzz), etc. I got tired of it, and slowly replaced them with... wait for it... high school students! I have zero... yes, ZERO of those issues now. It's polar opposite of what I had to deal with last year. These kids are eager to learn and work, and are a joy to have in my kitchen. I haven't yelled once this year kek
Now, some of these entitled, crabby elderly, drunken bar douchebags, and scamming customers (well, attempting to. I know ALL of the tricks and they no longer get away with it)... I'm still weeding as many of them out as I can. Can't get rid of all of the Karens and Kyles, though kek
(I always equated Karens and Kyles to those who are always looking for any reason to "speak to the manager" in order to get something cheap or free, and are never safisfied... i.e. entitled LIBERALS.
Thank heavens for the change over in staff!
