Didn't see the gun fly away from the attacker's hand and his body was covering it so it was good to make sure the threat was neutralized.

The attacker could have easily rolled onto his back and returned fire if the defender didn't land a fatal blow with the first shot.

Thats not what hes saying. Hes explaining why the full mag was dumped, not that anything else should have happened.
