She wore something to "fill in the gap". There's another actress, Lauren Hutton, who did the same thing. I remember seeing her in an interview where she was asked about it and she popped it right out during the interview. It was kind of impressive that she did that so people could see what she really looked like and it wasn't that awful bad to begin with.
