Questions about a C17 flying at an altitude of 825 FT through residential areas. Including my house.
About 10 minutes ago we had a C17 fly right over our house. I thought it was extremely low, roughly 500-1000 feet in altitude. It damn near shook our house.
I went on flightradarx.com, and was able to locate the exact plane. It shows the altitude at 825 feet. In my time in this area, I've never seen or heard a plane come so low by our neighborhood.
I'm not saying this is some habbening or that it's overly exciting, I'm just curious to know if anyone would have information as to why they might be flying so low? How common is this? Any insight at all would be appreciated.
I guess it depends on where you live, and if it's near any military airfields or training areas?
There's rules about flying low, or below a certain height, over large built up areas unless cleared to do so. Or depending on classification of the airspace in question.
I'm not native to the USA but have flown there as a pilot (mil) and whilst your flying rules are less strict than my own country (probably because of the vast amount of area) it wouldn't be usual just to low fly over a built up area in a C17 because you felt like it!
The Pinecastle Impact Range is approximately 5 miles from me, it is a no fly zone because of the bombing range
