It's not something I am overly concerned with but a more ecofriendly drone show might not bother me either. When preserving or altering traditions it's important to try to think about what the underlying substance of the tradition is - here I'm not sure a literal firework is needed to give off some sound and light in a celebratory way.
On one hand, this helps because fireworks profits do go to China. On the other hand, we might be giving into fear.
