The news title is BS though. Dirty bombs don't work that way. Their purpose is to spread radioactive material, thus irradiating and contaminating a large area. Think of them as WWI's gas ordnance, but with radioactive dust instead of chloride, phosgene or mustard.
I do believe, though, that the spooks and the nazis might try a heavy rocket barrage to expose the core or damage enough components to force a meltdown.
They could do it that way, or they could bring in their own radioactive material and spread it around. This isn't the first time there has been talk of Ukraine setting off a dirty bomb on their own territory as a false flag to force NATO to join the fight. They've tried chem weapons too. They got busted because some idiot Ukrainian officer was bragging about it and posted it on Telegram exposing the whole operation.
Regardless of how they do it, the question is motive. Ultimately, Russia's winning by attrition. It has only to be patient to win. It has no motive at all to spread radiation all over its own territory. Ukraine is losing disastrously. NATO's talking about stopping the flow of the freebies. Ukraine needs some way to motivate NATO to keep this dumpster fire of a war going. Ukraine can't show victory on the battlefield because it is grossly undertrained and outgunned. So, they have to do something extreme enough to force NATO to attack. They tried the missile attack into Poland. It failed. But they're more desperate now. The point is that Ukraine has a motive to do something stupid like this. Russia does not.
So if they do something stupid and the inevitable lies end up on TV, we can sort out what happened because again Russia has no motive at all to do this.
Honest question: What is Russia's goal in Ukraine since they would presumably be taking over a portion of a country devastated by the war? If it is "We don't want NATO right next to us!", that doesn't make sense because no matter how far west they extend their territory, NATO will be on their doorstep.
NATO will still be on their doorstep if they do not, so why cede the territory? They can stll keep Ukraine as a buffer zone under their direct control.
