Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Since I'm heading to bed soon, I'll throw this in the "tomorrow" thread..
I was listening to Sean's show and something he spoke about got me to thinking. During CV, I never "locked down". Let me explain further. If anyone I know frequents this site, this may doxx me, but oh well. I worked at a local, high-end furniture store during college and ended up working there much longer than I figured I would. But I was good at it and met a ton of good people. My grandfather always told me to be a good "people person" and you will do well. I grew a reputation as being really good and taking good care of my clients. I did a ton of after hours jobs. I did things for pretty well known people. You would know them if I said their names. After my many years there, I went out and started delivering on my own. Started off as delivering furniture and hanging artwork and just about anything else. Just about every designer in town and store know me. When CV hit, I didn't change a thing. Very few people even looked at me odd for not wearing a mask. I think I had one very old lady who asked if I would, so I did. She was a sweet old lady and I wasn't going to be an ass to her. I was polite and was only in her house for maybe 5 minutes. But aside from that, I never wore a mask and never stopped working. As long as there were businesses open and selling, I was working. And it also grew into basically a "handy man" type business. It never fails. If I'm in a person's home and dropping something off or hanging something, they will ask if I know how to do something else. And being as I started off working doing construction, I know how to do a lot of things around the house. So I'm pretty much my own boss. And I can work 7 days a week if I want to. There could literally be 3 of me and I'd still need help. And to top it all off, I'd say 90% of my work is cash. People pass my number around like crazy. I'm like a jigalow without the action. Not that I couldn't do that too, but that would seriously ruin my reputation. Anyway, my point being is that, as long as there are people with money to pay and things they need done, I will work. No one is "locking me down". No one controls me nor my income. I work for no one. I doubt I ever will again. Hell, I'm not even a business. I'm just a guy who does things. There's a market out there ladies and gents. If you have a truck and some basic tool skills and the will to do things, the need is there, anons. Just throwing is out there. There is plenty of cashola to be made. Men..... Be your own man..
Thanks for sharing your story fren. A lot of us understood the importance of being independant and not tied in to the system for the first time in our lives.
I have always believed that everyone should use salaried jobs as a stepping stone to get to their own independant business. Thats what is the best way to live. Even if you are slogging, its all for yourself, not to make some one else rich.
A 100 years ago it seems more than 90% of people used to be self employed. The production line destroyed that. Its time we go back to that place No more multinational conglomerates. No more mega corps. Humanity thrives in locality.
I think you’re right about this. And a lot of those conglomeration started because of all those fake wars that we got involved in. Women had to start working, because men were across the pond fighting. It was all by design.
One of the people I just placed the most is the Ford company. They are the ones that started this 8 AM to 5 PM working arrangement. Some people say it was a good thing because they were overworking people, and employee children as well. But I think it was another nail in the coffin to subjugate humans.
Present them with some type of ideal working day, and then beat them over the head with it. Clock in, clock out, clock in, clock out, clock in, clock out. It’s just so… ugh! Are used to work in HR at waste management, and the timekeeping system that we used was called KRONOS! Go figure! The symbolism is everywhere!
This is always always always how they normalize horrible stuff to us. First take a real problem, provide a solution that no one can find fault with, and then weaponise it and beat us over the head with it in every possible way.
So true, so true! That’s exactly what they’re doing with healthcare and the public school forums!
Wow… Do you want your children to have an education? In America, you can get a free education. BUT - now we want to teach your kids about dildos instead of mathematics.
Wow… Do you need healthcare? Well, in America, we have Obamacare, so now it cost more for ANY healthcare overall.
Rinse and repeat!
This is an interesting post, because I’m kind of the same way. My best friend and I - both women, used to do home repairs. We got pretty good at it. No electrical, minimal plumbing, but everything else under the sun. Toilets, water heaters, sinks, leaks, drywall, we even remodel a bathroom once. But it was just us, no company just us working through word of mouth from a homeowner who had some rentals and one realtor that we did jobs for that helped her sell homes. Then people who bought those homes might want a few things done, so she gave them our number as well.
Well, fast forward to today, and thank God I don’t have to do that job anymore because I live in Arizona and it was a real bitch having to work in the heat. However; there are a few people in my life that I will do small projects for, and one in particular that I do work for every couple weeks. But my new gig is pet sitting. It’s a great job, I don’t have to deal with people, and I’m able to be around other people’s animals.
Better yet… I stay at other peoples homes, I don’t have to use my own electricity, my own water, or other resources, when I’m staying at somebody else’s house. So that’s the upside. Right now my air-conditioning broke in my Arizona room, so I’m at somebody else’s house enjoying the cool breeze right now. I’ll get mine fixed in time, but at least it’s not an emergency and I can shop around and find an inexpensive split mini.
There’s so much truth to what you have said, as I am living it myself.
