Flew out of MacDan Aviation at CDW during that time frame. Know that route well, flites to Block Island, MVY and Newport were what most did. Flown it during very bad wx - got into some trouble about 3 times, made it back OK. The thing is you have to make the hard call to end the trip - get over to a large airport with serious nav aids, like Hartford etc, get CT assistance, and land safely. Very sobering. There is some inside info about the recovery of the craft and the bodies. Suspicious. There were at the time, likely still are mil installations along the route. Lot of underwater stuff. It was marked on the VFR maps we used. It doesn'tmatter if you and your plane IFR rated, the mag. and radar interference that got me into trouble was rife there, and it was sporadic. Most trips fine, until... The electronic interference that existed at that time was well known. The minute we heard he was overdue, we knew. Pretty much where too.
