50% (or more) of all agricultural gains since the industrial revolution is BECAUSE of increased atmospheric CO2. Most people attribute ALL of these gains with increased technology, but the greatest single contributor to agricultural gains since 1800 (during which time we have invented chemical fertilizers, pesticides and mechanized agriculture) is the increase in atmospheric CO2.
Doubling atmospheric CO2 is the equivalent of doubling rainfall in plants in semi-arid/arid regions as the increased CO2 allows photosynthesis to require HALF the water to be transpired from the plant.
At around ~250 ppm atmospheric CO2 (We are currently at ~420 ppm atmospheric CO2) agriculture becomes nearly IMPOSSIBLE. Which aligns with when the agricultural revolution began in the historical record (about 12,000 to 8,000 BCE).
The positive growth affects of CO2 are GREATER in trees than in grasses. Increases of atmospheric CO2 increase frost tolerance of plants.
Increased atmospheric CO2 makes plants more drought tolerant.
Increased atmospheric CO2 greens the world, making agriculture more bountiful.
