Reminds me of a study done in Japan that showed the consumption of Miso soup ( a fermented soy paste base for many Japanese dishes) helped prevent many people from dying from the atomic bombs and also prevented them from having cancer and aided them with a faster recovery.

I think Miso soup has seaweed/kelp in it, which is a good source of iodine.
That is interesting, of course fermentation would breed prebiotics.
