Here’s what caused Saturday’s destructive storms in the D.C. area

The extreme winds were not caused by a tornado or a derecho, but by what’s known as downbursts.

I'm a little further out (Prince William County mid county area) and it was pretty intense here. Could not see the house behind me thru the rain. I live in a new-ish neighborhood and so no power loss but lights flickered enough to shut down computer. I haven't seen any severe damage but lots of small limbs down.
