Not defending anyone at all, but years ago I had to go to an old storage space to pick up my stuff because the place was closing down. I signed a thing saying it was my stuff and I was taking it all with me. When I went around back to my storage space there were three cops there waiting. Someone had broken into my storage space and had stolen a bunch of my stuff and left behind a bunch of trash that included used crack pipes, there was a lock on the space that was not mine.
But, since I'd signed something that said it was my stuff, I had to deal with the cops in that moment, luckily I'm former LE and talked to the guys, but anyone else probably would've been arrested.
