Holy Father, once again, I'd like to thank You for the quality of this vacation, albeit belatedly taken and reduced. I was able to accomplish many things in the garden as well as in the studio, relax and meet friends without having to travel too far. Despite a sudden bout of lumbago, I wasn't prevented too much from looking after my wife, my animals and my property, where everything continued to run smoothly. I pray that the serenity I feel, despite the tumult we read about in the press, will also be felt by others, helping them to focus on their duties without preventing them from remaining the islands of stability that their loved ones see in them.

AGENDA

Today we celebrate Saint Stephen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Stephen

Stephen (Greek: Στέφανος Stéphanos, meaning "wreath or crown" and by extension "reward, honor, renown, fame", often given as a title rather than as a name; c. 5 – c. 34 CE) is traditionally venerated as the protomartyr or first martyr of Christianity. According to the Acts of the Apostles, he was a deacon in the early Church at Jerusalem who angered members of various synagogues by his teachings. Accused of blasphemy at his trial, he made a speech denouncing the Jewish authorities who were sitting in judgment on him and was then stoned to death. Saul of Tarsus, later known as Paul, a Pharisee and Roman citizen who would later become a Christian apostle, participated in Stephen's martyrdom.
