why would the gold be swapped for bitcoin if a currency is going to be gold backed?

No, not white hat operations; black hats are pumping bitcoin as a form of collateral for their schemes. There's more Financials I could speculate about, but that's as simple as I can put it for now. If you need more info, I'll explain more later when I'm free.
